The water dispenser is the part of the refrigerator most families use most and the one they call about least, until it stops. When it does, the cause is one of six things, and the first two cost nothing. A filter past its date restricts flow to a dribble. A line in the freezer door freezes solid and nothing comes out at all. After those, it is a valve, a switch, a heater or a housing, and every one of them is a same-visit part. Here is the order we check, which brands do what, and what each fix costs.

Water dispenser problems and what they actually are

Slow dribble, weak stream
A filter past its six months, which Miami water clogs faster than the light suggests. Change it first. If the flow does not return, the inlet valve on the back of the fridge is partly blocked with sediment or the saddle valve at the wall was never opened fully. Filter is free with the visit; valve $170 to $310.
Nothing comes out, ice maker still works
On side-by-side units the water line runs through the freezer door and freezes when the door heater fails or the freezer runs too cold. Thawing it fixes it for a week; the heater or the temperature setting fixes it for good. On French door units with the tank in the fridge, a frozen tank means the fridge is running below 34 degrees, which is its own fault.
Nothing comes out, ice maker dead too
The water supply to the whole refrigerator: the wall valve, a kinked or split line behind the unit, or the inlet valve on the back. We check the wall first because it is free.
Dispenser drips after use, or runs on its own
Air in the line after a filter change clears in a day. A drip that continues is the dispenser valve not closing, or a filter housing seal. A dispenser that runs by itself is a stuck paddle switch or a control board, and we shut the wall valve until it is fixed.
Paddle or button does nothing, light works
The dispenser switch behind the paddle, the dispenser control board, or on touch models the display assembly. Switch first, board only after the switch tests good.
Water spits, sputters, or comes out cloudy
Air in the line from a filter change or a low-pressure supply, or a housing that is letting air past the filter seal. A cloudy glass that clears from the bottom up is dissolved air and harmless; a housing that draws air needs replacing.
Water tastes or smells off
The filter, or a tank and line that have not been flushed. We flush the system and replace the filter; on units that have sat unused, the tank in the fridge needs a full flush.
Keurig or hot water dispenser dead on Café and Profile
The brewer module has its own heater, pump and board. A dead brewer with a working cold dispenser is the module; we test it separately, because it is not a cheap part and not always the culprit.

Before you call

Change the filter if it is past six months, and run a gallon through to clear the air. Open the wall valve behind the fridge all the way. If ice still comes out but water does not, the door line is frozen and the fix is a heater, not a valve. If neither comes out, look for a kink in the line behind the unit. That covers two thirds of the calls, and the rest are same-visit parts.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair refrigerator water dispensers in Miami and Broward?
Yes, across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, seven days a week, on every brand. Same-day slots most days when you call before noon at (754) 345-4515.
Why does my water dispenser work but only dribble?
Almost always the filter, which Miami water clogs faster than the indicator light expects. Change it and run a gallon through. If the flow stays weak, the inlet valve is partly blocked, $170 to $310.
My ice works but the water dispenser gives nothing. Why?
On a side-by-side the water line runs through the freezer door and has frozen because the door heater failed. Thawing lasts a week; the heater fixes it, $180 to $340.
The dispenser keeps dripping after I fill a glass. Is it broken?
A drip for a day after a filter change is air and clears itself. A drip that continues is the dispenser valve not seating or the filter housing seal, $150 to $330.
How much does refrigerator water dispenser repair cost?
A frozen line thawed and tested $120 to $200, heaters and valves $170 to $340, switches $130 to $240, a control board $240 to $460, a Keurig module $320 to $560. The $59 service call is free when you approve the repair.
Can the dispenser be a sign of a bigger refrigerator problem?
Sometimes. A tank freezing in the fridge section means the fridge is running too cold, which is a thermistor or damper fault, and a dispenser that stopped along with the ice maker can be the main board after a surge. We check for both.
