Fridge warm, freezer cold, frost on the back wall of the freezer
The defrost system stopped cycling and the evaporator coil iced over. On Whirlpool it is the defrost thermostat, the defrost heater, or on older units the mechanical timer; on newer units the control board’s adaptive defrost. We thaw the coil, replace the failed part, and check the gaskets so humidity does not re-ice it.
Fan noise that comes and goes, then no cold air

Both sides warm, clicking from the back

Water dispenser slow, dead or dripping
A filter past its date, a frozen line in the freezer door on side-by-side units, or a dispenser valve that no longer closes. The filter is checked first because it is the free answer.
Water under the crisper drawers or on the floor
A clogged defrost drain, and on some Whirlpool models a drain tube that Whirlpool issued a heater kit for. We clear the drain, fit the kit where it applies, and confirm the defrost cycle runs.
Runs constantly, sides hot, never quite cold
