GE builds more of the ranges in South Florida rentals and older houses than any brand, and it builds them at four levels: the plain GE freestanding, the Profile slide-in, the Café with the copper knobs, and the Monogram pro-style. They share more inside than the badges suggest. A GE oven that stops heating is a bake element or an igniter; a GE oven that throws F2 is the sensor or the door lock; and the Café and Profile touch controls have the same humidity habit as everyone else’s. GE range problems, by code and symptom
Oven will not heat, or heats slowly
Electric: the bake element has opened, and GE elements show a visible blister or break more often than most. Gas: the glow-bar igniter has weakened below the current the safety valve needs, so it glows and nothing lights. We meter the element or clamp the igniter draw before anything else, because it is the answer four times in five.
F2 or F3: oven overheating or sensor fault
F2 is the control seeing a temperature above its limit, which is a sensor that has drifted or a relay stuck closed. F3 is the sensor open. The sensor is a $40 part; a stuck relay is the board. We measure the sensor first.
F7 or F0: stuck key
A key held down on the membrane or touch panel, often moisture after a boil-over or a wipe-down. It sometimes clears on its own; when it does not, the keypad or touch assembly is the part. On older JB and JGB freestanding ranges the membrane is bonded to the control and comes as one piece.
F96, F97: door lock fault after self-clean
The lock motor or its switch failed during the clean cycle, sometimes with the thermal fuse. We replace the lock, test the fuse, and say the same thing we say about every brand: self-clean on a range past six years is a gamble.
Gas burner clicks and will not light
A spark electrode fouled with boil-over residue or cracked, or moisture in a spark switch on a humid morning. We clean or replace the electrode and isolate a leaking switch. The Café and Monogram dual-ring burners have two electrodes and lose one at a time.
Radiant element stuck on high, or glass top cracked
An element stuck on is the infinite switch or a shorted element; a flickering one is the switch. A cracked glass top is a replacement top, and on slide-ins the elements come mounted to it.
Induction zone dead or E-code on Profile and Café
Each pair of zones runs through its own power board. One side dead is one board; the whole top dead is the filter board or the main supply. We test them individually because they are priced individually.
Convection fan noisy or dead, bakes unevenly
The convection motor announces bearing wear as a drone before it seizes. Caught early it is the motor; run to failure it can take the fan and a fuse. An oven that bakes unevenly with no fan noise at all has lost the motor already.
Door will not close flush, heat escaping at the top
Hinge wear or a flattened gasket, and GE hinges on the heavier Café doors sag earlier. Both stretch preheats and mimic a thermostat fault. Hinge kit and gasket, verified with a probe.

A GE range is worth repairing at nearly any age under fifteen years, because the parts that fail are inexpensive and the cabinet, the door and the cooktop outlast them. The line is a control board plus a keypad failing together on a freestanding range past ten years, where the pair reaches half the price of a new JB645, or a cracked glass top on the same.
