A Maytag dryer built after 2006 is a Whirlpool dryer with a heavier door and a ten-year limited warranty on the drive motor and the drum. That is good news twice: the parts are on the truck, and the one expensive failure, the motor, is often a labor bill, not a parts bill. What fails on a Maytag is what fails on any dryer in South Florida. The thermal fuse blows because the vent stopped moving air, the rollers wear flat around year six, and a gas MGD loses its valve coils one at a time. The Commercial Grade MEDP575 is the exception on the list, because it is built for a laundromat and is worth repairing at almost any age. Here is the list with the numbers.

Maytag dryer problems and what we do about them

Runs but no heat
Electric: the thermal fuse on the blower housing or the heating element. Gas: the igniter, the flame sensor or the gas valve coils, which fail in that order. We meter each and check the vent airflow before leaving, because the fuse blew for a reason and the reason is still in the duct.
Heats, then goes cold mid-cycle, clothes take two runs
Overheating. The high-limit thermostat is cutting the element because the vent is blocked or the blower wheel is packed with lint. We clean the vent to the outside where the run allows and clear the housing. On a gas MGD a valve coil that opens once and quits when warm gives the same symptom, a specific and cheap part.
Squeal, thump or scrape on every rotation
Drum rollers with flat spots, the idler pulley, or the rear drum glides. We replace the four rollers, the pulley and the belt as a maintenance kit with the drum out, so the part we left does not start the noise again within a season.
F01, F22, F28, F70: control and sensor codes
F01 is the main board, F22 the exhaust thermistor, F28 the moisture sensor circuit, F70 the user interface not talking to the board. Each points to one part. The sensors are cheap; the board is not, and we only quote it after the sensors test good.
Will not start, hums, or drum does not turn
A snapped belt if it hums, a broken belt switch, or the drive motor. Belts are truck stock. A motor is a same-day part, and on most Maytags sold since 2015 it is covered for ten years, part only, so you pay labor.
Dead panel, no lights
A blown thermal fuse on the older mechanical-timer models cuts power to the whole dryer. On electronic models it is the board or a failed door switch. We check the fuse and the switch before condemning a board.
Door will not latch, or dryer stops when you let go of the door
A worn door catch or a failed door switch. Ten-minute parts.
Sensor dry ends early, clothes damp
Moisture sensor bars inside the drum coated with dryer-sheet residue, or a failed sensor harness. Cleaning the bars is part of the visit.

The Maytag ten-year warranty on dryers

Most Maytag dryers sold since 2015 carry a ten-year limited warranty on the drive motor and the drum, parts only, and one year on everything else. A dryer that hums and will not turn on a six-year-old MED6230 is usually a labor bill if the serial checks out. Give us the serial or the receipt and we look up the build date. Fuses, elements, rollers and boards are not covered, which is why those are the numbers in the table.

Repair or replace

A Maytag dryer is worth repairing at nearly any age, and a Commercial Grade MEDP575 is worth repairing past the point where we would quote a replacement for anything else. The only case for a new dryer is a motor out of warranty and a board failing in the same year on a unit past twelve years. Stacked MET laundry centers tip toward repair because the washer half is fine.
