Kenmore never built an appliance. Sears put its name on machines made by Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire, GE and a few others, and the first three digits of the model number tell you which one you own. That matters because a Kenmore 110 washer is a Whirlpool with the same shifter actuator and gearcase; a Kenmore 796 is an LG with the same OE and LE codes; a Kenmore 417 is a Frigidaire front-loader; a Kenmore 106 refrigerator is a Whirlpool with the modular ice maker. Sears is mostly gone and Kenmore parts under the Kenmore name are scarce, but the parts under the real maker’s name are on our trucks. Whirlpool inside. On the VMW platform the shifter actuator or lid lock; on the older direct-drive machines the motor coupler, a $15 part and an hour. On the Elite and Oasis, the Cabrio actuator or rotor position sensor.

796 washer shows OE, LE, UE or dE
LG inside. OE is the drain pump filter or pump, LE the motor hall sensor, UE balance, dE the door lock. Same parts and prices as the LG page, and the LG direct-drive motor’s ten-year part warranty often still applies.
417 front-loader roars on spin, leaks at the bottom
Frigidaire inside. The drum bearing on older 417 machines, or a cracked spider arm, and the honest replacement quote that goes with either on a unit past seven years. Pumps and locks are cheap and worth doing.
110 or 796 dryer runs, no heat
Thermal fuse, element or igniter on the Whirlpool or LG platform, and the vent that caused the fuse to blow. Vent airflow checked with every heating repair.
106 refrigerator warm on top, ice maker dead
