Golden Technologies lift chair repair at home, from Miami and Boca Raton to Tampa, Sarasota and Naples. A dead remote, a chair stuck in the up position, a transformer with no light, a battery backup that will not bring the chair down. Cloud, MaxiComfort, Comforter, EZ Sleeper, Relaxer and the other Golden lines. The $59 service call is credited to the repair you approve.

Golden makes it easier than most brands to see where the power stops. Chairs with the SmartTek diagnostic system have three green lights: one on the hand control, one on the transformer and one on the cable between the motor and the transformer. Golden’s own guide reads them like this. If the transformer light is out, either no power reaches the transformer or the transformer has failed and needs replacing. If the transformer light is on but the motor cable light is out, power is not getting from the transformer to the motor. If the hand control light is out and the chair does nothing, the remote is the likely suspect.

What we check on a Golden lift chair

Remote dead or working one way
The most searched Golden problem is the hand control, and for good reason: it is handled every day and its cable runs past moving parts. We test it against the SmartTek lights, check the plug and the cable, and replace the remote when it is the remote.
Transformer light out
First the outlet, since Golden manuals rule out extension cords. If the outlet is live and the light stays off, the transformer gets replaced, as Golden’s guide says.
Stuck in the up position
Golden’s manuals show no hand crank. Without power, the battery backup is what returns the chair to sitting. If the backup does not do it either, leave the chair unplugged where it is and do not force the seat down.
Battery backup
On the models in the MaxiComfort and PR502 manuals, two 9-volt batteries sit inside the transformer. They are meant to bring the chair back to sitting during an outage, not to run it, and Golden says to replace them after one use and once a year. The heavy-duty PR502 has two transformers and four batteries, so we check both sides. Newer chairs such as the Cloud+ PR511 and the EZ Sleeper PR761 use a lithium-ion backup instead.
MaxiComfort positions
MaxiComfort chairs have four main motions, three for recline and one for lift, and the motors stop on their own at the end of travel. A motion that stops early or never reaches the end points us to that motor or its cable, not to the whole chair.

Warranty: what Golden pays and what you pay

Golden covers the lift mechanism, the recline mechanism and the wooden frame for life, with labor on those parts subsidized for three years. Electrical parts, which means the hand control, motor, transformer, control box, heat pad and massage unit, are covered for three years. After that the warranty turns into a discount on the part: 35% in year four, 25% in year five, 15% in year six and 5% in year seven. Labor on electrical parts is subsidized for the first year only.

Two more lines matter. In-home inspection fees and mileage are always on the owner, and a call that turns out to be a bad outlet is not covered. Claims go through the retailer that sold the chair and need Golden’s approval, and the warranty does not transfer to a new owner. So from the second year on, a Golden owner usually pays for the visit and the labor even when the part is covered. We diagnose first, so you know exactly which part to claim, and we install the part once the retailer sends it.

Repair or replace?

Golden lists its lift recliners from about $1,189 for an Elara to $3,439 for a Cloud Supreme or an EZ Sleeper with Twilight. A remote, a transformer or a motor costs much less than either end of that range, and the lift mechanism itself is covered for life. Replacement starts to make sense only when the frame is damaged and the part you need is no longer sold.

Frequently asked questions

My Golden lift chair remote stopped working. What now?
On a SmartTek chair, look at the light on the hand control. If it is out and the chair does nothing, the remote is the likely cause. If the transformer light is out too, the problem is upstream, at the outlet or the transformer.
How do I lower a Golden lift chair without power?
With the battery backup. Older models use two 9-volt batteries in the transformer, newer ones a lithium-ion pack. Golden’s manuals show no manual crank, so if the backup does not work, leave the chair unplugged and call us.
Where do Golden parts come from?
Golden sells parts through its retailers. If your store has closed, Golden points owners to another retailer through its locator. We help identify the exact part first.
I bought the chair used. Is it still under warranty?
No. Golden’s warranty does not transfer to a new owner, so a used chair is repaired at the owner’s cost.
Which areas do you cover?
South Florida from Homestead to Jupiter, Tampa Bay, Sarasota and Manatee, and the Naples and Fort Myers area. Call (754) 345-4515 with your ZIP code if you are not sure.
