What Cape Coral called us about

Our job notes for the Cape mention a washer 17 times and a dryer 10 times. Refrigerators show up 6 times, dishwashers and ranges 5 each. February and March were the busiest months, with 12 and 11 visits. Two other calls: a Whirlpool washer showing a DR code, and an LG dryer that made a noise and would not turn its drum.

Samsung dishwasher showing OC

OC is the overfill warning: the machine thinks the tub holds too much water. We start with the float and the water level sensor. A stuck float is a quick fix; a sensor or board means a part order.

Maytag dryer cutting off early with no heat

Usually airflow. A vent choked with lint makes the dryer run hot until a thermostat or the thermal fuse cuts the heat. We look at the vent before replacing parts, because a new fuse in a blocked vent blows again.

KitchenAid refrigerator with no ice

If both sections are holding temperature, the fault is usually on the water side. A frozen fill tube or a weak inlet valve gets checked before anyone blames the ice maker.

North of Pine Island Road and south of it

Our busiest ZIP was 33993 on the north-west side, with 15 visits. Then came 33990 with 10, and 33909 and 33991 with 9 each. The south end was quieter: 4 calls in 33914 around Cape Harbour and Tarpon Point, and 4 in 33904 off Cape Coral Parkway near the Yacht Club.

Pine Island Road also splits the Cape by water supply. The city has run its lines to nearly all of Cape Coral south of the road and is still working north through the Utilities Extension Project. City water is treated by reverse osmosis, and the utility puts its hardness at 4 to 5 grains per gallon, which is on the soft side. North of the road many houses still pull from a shallow private well, and that water can carry sand and iron. In a washer that can mean an inlet screen packed with grit and a machine that fills slowly or will not take water at all. One of our Cape calls last season was a washer that would not take water; on a well, the screens get checked before the valve.

Garage laundry and salt air

Census data counts about 79% of Cape Coral homes as detached single-family houses, and roughly half were built in 2000 or later. Many of them keep the washer and dryer in the garage. That garage stays humid most of the year, and on a canal lot (the city has more than 400 miles of canals) the air carries salt too. Dryer cabinets and washer frames rust faster out there, and damp lint cakes inside the vent.

Booking a Cape Coral visit

Openings in Cape Coral change from week to week, so call to check the next one; dispatch gives you the window on the phone. $59 covers the visit and diagnosis and is credited to the repair if you go ahead. If the house sits empty over the summer (Census data lists about 12% of Cape Coral housing as seasonal), tell dispatch who will let the technician in.

You get a written price before any part is ordered. Last season, when a Cape Coral visit turned into a repair, a typical ticket was $220 to $350 in parts and labor. Brand-specific boards and ice maker assemblies are usually a two to three business day order, and the second visit is not charged a new service call. Parts carry our tiered warranty, up to 10 years on sealed-system welds, and labor is covered for 90 days.

Brands we saw in the Cape

The brands in our Cape notes were Maytag, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Samsung, GE and LG. Samsung and LG have their own pages, Samsung appliance repair and LG appliance repair, and we are an LG Authorized Service Center. We also repair Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Miele, Viking and Monogram.

By appliance: washer repair, dryer repair, refrigerator repair, dishwasher repair, range repair. Photos of finished jobs are on Our work.

Across the Caloosahatchee

The Midpoint Memorial Bridge and the Cape Coral Bridge tie the Cape to Fort Myers, which we cover too. Further south along I-75 are Estero and Bonita Springs, and past them Naples.

FAQ: appliance repair in Cape Coral

Do you have an office in Cape Coral?

No. Our only address is 1001 N Federal Hwy in Hallandale Beach, and there is no walk-in shop. The technician comes to your house; book at (754) 345-4515 or with the form on this page.

How soon can a technician get to Cape Coral?

It depends on the week. Call to check the next opening and dispatch gives you the window on the phone. Phones are answered 7 AM to 9 PM, seven days, in English, Spanish and Russian, and weekends cost the same as weekdays.

My house is on a well north of Pine Island Road. Does that matter?

It might. Sand from a shallow well can clog the inlet screens that washers and dishwashers fill through, and a clogged screen looks a lot like a failed valve. Mention the well when you book.

We replaced our appliances after Hurricane Ian. Are they worth fixing?

Ian made landfall near Cape Coral in September 2022, and a lot of houses by the water bought new machines afterward. At three or four years old, a machine with a failed pump or board is usually worth fixing. Check the paperwork and have the model and serial number ready: some makers cover certain parts for years and send that work to their own servicers.
