Stressless puts long warranties on the frame and the inner mechanism, ten years on the mechanism. The electrics wear sooner: the motor, the switch, the cables and, on chairs that have one, the battery. That is the part of a Stressless we repair.

How the power models are built

Power Leg chairs move the footrest with a motor. Power Leg & Back chairs move the back as well. Sam and Scott, introduced in 2020, have three built-in motors and a control hidden under the armrest, with heat and light massage as options. The Wing Power Leg & Back adds a tilting headrest mechanism and is made in Norway. On power sofas like Emily each seat carries its own motors, so one seat can fail while the others keep working. That is how we approach a Stressless: one motion at a time, starting from the switch.

What we repair

Warranty first, if the chair is under five years old

Stressless covers the motor and the electronic parts of the power mechanism for five years, the battery for two years and the inner mechanism for ten. Stressless pays for the part and its shipping but not for labor. Two exclusions matter: repairs by people the manufacturer has not authorized, and third-party batteries, which void the whole Stressless warranty. Claims go through the retailer, with the original receipt.

So the order is simple. Inside five years, start with your Stressless retailer, and ask who installs the part and what that costs, because Stressless does not pay for it. If you replace a battery on a chair under warranty, use an original Stressless battery. Once the warranty is over, or if the retailer cannot help, we diagnose and repair the chair at home.

Repair or replace?

The Wing Power Leg & Back sells for about $3,600 to $4,000, Sam and Scott started at $4,000, and a three-seat Emily sofa with two power ends lists at $11,395. With prices like that, a motor, a switch or a cable is worth fixing on almost any Stressless.
