The Samsung French door ice maker is the single most repeated call we take in South Florida. The ice maker sits in the fridge section, in a small room fed by cold air from the freezer through a duct, and the room was never sealed well against the warm, humid fridge air around it. Frost builds on the tray and the auger, the auger locks, and the owner chips it out with a hair dryer every three weeks. That is not a repair. The repair is the kit Samsung engineered for exactly this: a new seal for the ice room, a revised drain and fill tube, and often a new auger motor that burned out fighting the ice. Done properly, it holds. We have installed hundreds of them and here is what it costs and what else can be wrong.

About the class action, in one paragraph
The 2017 lawsuit over the French door ice maker ended without a payout, so there is no check coming. What did come out of it is the engineered kit that Samsung issued while the case was open, and that kit is what we install. It is the difference between chipping ice out every three weeks and forgetting the problem existed. On an RF28 that has been chipped out three times, the kit plus a fresh auger motor runs $300 to $480 and the problem does not come back.
Repair or replace
The ice maker is never a reason to replace a Samsung refrigerator. The kit costs a fraction of the machine, the cooling side is unaffected, and a Bespoke or Family Hub unit costs far more to replace than to seal. The only time we talk about a new refrigerator on an ice maker call is when the compressor is also failing, which is a separate diagnosis with its own numbers on the Samsung refrigerator repair page.
