Miele Dishwasher Water Inlet Valve and Flowmeter Calibration

Miele dishwashers (G6000, G7000, G7100 series) use an integrated water inlet system that is mechanically and electronically different from American brands. The valve has an Aqua-Stop solenoid, a flow meter, and a leak sensor all in one assembly. When water issues throw F11 or F12, owners and unfortunately some non-specialist techs try to install generic dishwasher valves. That does not work. Here is what is actually inside and how to service it properly.

The Miele inlet assembly

What ships from Miele as the “inlet hose” is actually a full assembly:

• Aqua-Stop double-walled hose (outer pipe with leak detection wire)
• Solenoid valve at the supply end (mounts under your sink at the angle stop)
• Flow meter integrated in-line
• Inlet strainer at the machine end
• Leak sensor mat under the machine pan

All of these communicate with the control via a 7-pin harness. Replacing only the valve coil with a generic part bypasses the leak detection and the flowmeter — Miele firmware will throw codes immediately or, worse, miss a real leak event.

F11 — slow drain / no drain

Not directly inlet-related but commonly misdiagnosed as one. Check first:

1. Pull the drain hose from the disposer/drain — clear obstruction
2. Clear the dishwasher filter (cylindrical filter at the bottom of the tub) — Miele filters need monthly cleaning in hard-water areas like Miami
3. Check the drain pump for debris through the access at the bottom-front (kick plate off)

F12 — water inlet error

The flowmeter has not registered enough water flow during fill. Causes:

• Supply angle stop partially closed — open fully and verify
• Aqua-Stop tripped from a prior leak event — even a small overflow last month locks the valve until reset
• Inlet strainer at the machine end clogged with sediment
• Solenoid coil failure in the Aqua-Stop valve
• Flowmeter sensor failure (less common)

The Aqua-Stop reset

If the Aqua-Stop has tripped from a small historical leak, the valve will not reopen until you physically reset it. Procedure:

1. Power off at the breaker
2. Close the supply angle stop
3. Disconnect the hose at the angle stop (some sealed water will release — have a towel)
4. Inside the Aqua-Stop housing there is a small plunger. Press it firmly for 3 seconds
5. Reconnect, open supply, restore power

Flowmeter calibration after replacement

Miele control firmware learns the actual water flow rate over the first few cycles. After a hose replacement, you may see cycle times 8-12 minutes longer than normal for the first 3-4 wash cycles while the control re-calibrates. Do not panic — it is expected.

Why generic valves do not work

The Aqua-Stop is not a regulatory feature added to Miele. It is part of the machine’s protection logic. A generic valve has no flowmeter pulse output, no leak sense pin, and no Aqua-Stop coil. The control board reads “no flow pulse” and trips F12 even when water is flowing. Use OEM or do not bother.
