KitchenAid dishwashers are Whirlpool’s premium line, built on the same tub and pump platform as the Whirlpool WDT and Maytag MDB machines, with a heavier door, a third rack and a quieter motor. That matters for repair because the parts are shared and the prices are moderate, even when the badge suggests otherwise. The KitchenAid habit we see most in South Florida is the clean light blinking seven times, which is the heater circuit reporting that the water never got hot, and behind it is usually a heating element or a wash motor, not the board that owners are quoted first. The rest of the list is below with what each one costs.

KitchenAid dishwasher models we repair

  • KDTE204, KDTE234, KDTE334, KDTE404 top-control
  • KDTM354, KDTM404, KDTM604, KDTM704 with the FreeFlex third rack
  • KDPM604, KDPM704, KDPM804 panel-ready and PrintShield models
  • KDFE104, KDFE204, KDFE304 front-control
  • Older KUDE, KUDS, KUDC, KUDL series with the ProScrub and ProWash options
  • Architect Series II and the older Superba line

KitchenAid dishwasher problems, by code and symptom

Clean light blinking 7 times, or code 1-1 and 6-1
The heater circuit did not reach temperature. On the KDTE and KDTM platform this is the heating element, the wash motor that drives water across it, or on older KUDE units the thermistor. We meter the element and the motor before anyone talks about a board, because the board is the expensive guess and rarely the answer.
8-4, 8-1, 8-2: drain fault
The drain pump is blocked or has failed. Glass and food debris under the filter, a clogged check valve, or a hose pushed too far into the disposal so it siphons. We clear and test before replacing, and the pump on the KDTE platform is a same-visit part when it has failed.
6-2, 6-3, 6-4: water not filling
The inlet valve, its screen clogged with mineral grit from South Florida water, or a float switch stuck up by debris. Screens are cleaned free with the visit; a valve is a same-day part.
9-1, 9-2, 9-3: diverter or wash motor
The diverter valve that switches water between racks, or the wash motor itself. Dishes on one rack come out dirty, or the machine hums and does not wash. The diverter is the cheaper part and the more common one.
Will not start, door light on, or door will not latch
The door latch assembly. KitchenAid’s heavy doors and the FreeFlex rack loading strain the latch, and the control refuses to start with a door it reads as open. Same-visit part. A warped top-control panel can hold the door open a hair and cause the same thing.
2-1, 2-2 or a dead panel
A stuck key or the user interface not talking to the control board. Moisture in the top-control ribbon after a steam cycle is the usual cause. We dry and test before replacing the panel, and we only quote the main board after the panel and the harness test good.
Leaking from the front corners or under the door
The door gasket, the lower door seal, or a spray arm that has cracked and throws water at the door. On panel-ready KDPM units a custom front that closes out of alignment leaks at one corner.
Dishes wet, or white film on glasses
Rinse aid empty or the dispenser stuck, or hard-water scale on the heater. We fix the dispenser and descale the sump, and we set the rinse-aid dose for Miami water.

Repair or replace

Pumps, latches, valves, elements, seals and dispensers are worth doing on any KitchenAid dishwasher under twelve years. The line is a wash motor and a control board failing together on a unit past nine years, where the pair reaches half the price of a new KDTE204. Panel-ready KDPM units and anything with a custom front tip toward repair, because replacement means a new panel and a cabinet fit.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair KitchenAid dishwashers in Miami and Broward?
Yes, across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, seven days a week, top-control, front-control and panel-ready. Same-day slots most days when you call before noon at (754) 345-4515.
My KitchenAid clean light blinks seven times. What does that mean?
The water never reached temperature. It is the heating element or the wash motor far more often than the board, and we meter both before quoting. An element runs $190 to $340, a wash motor $300 to $520.
What does 8-4 mean on a KitchenAid dishwasher?
A drain fault. Debris under the filter, a clogged check valve or a siphoning hose most often, $130 to $210 to clear. A failed drain pump runs $180 to $320.
My KitchenAid dishwasher will not start and the door light is on. Is it the board?
Usually the door latch, $160 to $290. The heavy door and a loaded third rack strain it, and the control will not start with a door it reads as open. We test the latch and the panel before anyone quotes a board.
How much does KitchenAid dishwasher repair cost?
Clearing and small parts run $130 to $340. A wash motor $300 to $520, a touch panel $260 to $460, a main board $280 to $500. The $59 service call is free when you approve the repair.
Are KitchenAid and Whirlpool dishwashers the same inside?
Largely yes. KitchenAid is Whirlpool’s premium line on the same tub and pump platform with a heavier door, quieter motor and the FreeFlex rack. Parts are shared, which keeps repair prices moderate despite the badge.
