Whirlpool range problems, by code and symptom

Oven will not heat, or heats slowly
Electric: the bake element has opened, often with a visible blister, or a relay on the control board stopped feeding it. Gas: the glow-bar igniter has weakened below the current the safety valve needs, so it glows and nothing lights. We meter the element or clamp the igniter first, because that is the answer four times in five.
F2 E0, F2 E1: stuck key or keypad fault
A key held down on the membrane or touch panel, usually moisture after a boil-over or a wipe-down. It sometimes clears on its own; when it does not, the keypad or user interface is the part. We dry and test before replacing.
F1 E0, F1 E1: control board
The main control has lost its program or a relay has failed. We check the keypad, the sensor and the elements first, because each of those produces a board-looking fault for a fraction of the price.
F3 E0, F3 E1: oven sensor
The temperature sensor is open or out of range. A $40 part and an hour of labor. An oven that bakes 25 to 50 degrees off without a code has the same sensor drifting, and we measure it against the spec table.
F5 E1, F5 E0: door lock fault
The lock motor or its switch failed, usually during a self-clean cycle, sometimes with the thermal fuse. We replace the lock, test the fuse, and say what we say about every brand: self-clean on a range past six years is a gamble.
F9 E0: power problem
The range is not seeing both legs of the 240-volt supply. A tripped half of a breaker, a burnt terminal at the block, or a failed cord. We check the supply before anything else, because a burnt terminal is a fire risk and a five-minute fix.
Gas burner clicks and will not light
A spark electrode fouled with boil-over residue or cracked, or moisture in a spark switch on a humid morning. We clean or replace the electrode and isolate a leaking switch, and the harness only comes out when it has hardened with age.
Radiant element stuck on high, or glass top cracked
An element stuck on is the infinite switch or a shorted element; one that flickers is the switch. A cracked glass top is a replacement top, and on slide-ins the elements come mounted to it.
Door will not close flush, heat escaping
Hinge wear or a flattened gasket. Both stretch preheats and mimic a thermostat fault. Hinge kit and gasket, verified with a probe.
